A series of suspicious fires broke out early Saturday morning in the West Kelowna area, leaving residents on edge after one blaze came within metres of a home.

Four incidents occurred over four hours within a two-kilometre radius near Old Okanagan Highway and Shannon Lake Road, prompting an RCMP investigation.Fire officials believe the events are connected and are treating them as potential arson cases.West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund noted the fires were all in the same vicinity, emphasizing the danger during wildfire season.Resident Josh Sidhe described the experience as terrifying, recounting how his partner woke him from sleep to a pillar of fire outside their home.Though flames only reached 10 feet from their property, residents used a garden hose to prevent spread while waiting for crews.Brolund warned that the timing is especially concerning due to heightened wildfire risks.Firefighters responded to Kinsmen Park multiple times to extinguish fires in garbage bins, portable toilets, and picnic areas.Authorities are urging the community to report suspicious activity, but no arrests have been made yet.Sidhe expressed fear over the potential for future incidents, highlighting the anxiety residents face during this critical season.
