The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four individuals, including National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) officials, in Karachi for allegedly facilitating the production of fake identity documents for Afghan nationals.

The suspects include Nadra Assistant Director Imamul Haq, Deputy Assistant Director Fayyaz Ahmed, Junaid Ahmed (a watchman), and private agent Muhammad Umar Shah.

Law enforcement agencies seized records and evidence during the operation, with the investigation expanding to include potential links to terrorist elements.

This arrest follows previous incidents where Nadra officials were implicated in issuing fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to Afghan nationals.

The FIA's actions come amid increased pressure to address illegal immigration from Afghanistan, as Pakistan continues repatriating undocumented Afghans.Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has also raised concerns about the missing suspect Fayyaz Ahmed and urged the Sindh government to locate him.Millions of Afghans have migrated to Pakistan over decades, with recent tensions exacerbated by the Taliban's return in 2021.
