Nairobi Senator Sifuna Launches New Political Party to Challenge ODM in 2027 Elections

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is at the center of a major political shift as he prepares to lead a mass exit from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Luhya leaders and politicians aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement have resolved to front Sifuna as their presidential candidate under a new political outfit, aiming to consolidate Western Kenya's vote and free him from internal ODM disputes.

The decision was made during a meeting hosted by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, attended by regional lawmakers who agreed Sifuna should be the region's key figure.

Major rallies are planned for July 25-26 in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma to launch grassroots campaigns across 38 constituencies, endorse Sifuna publicly, and coordinate mobilization.

The faction aims to register Linda Mwananchi as a formal party, though time constraints may force them to join an existing group like the United Patriotic Movement (UPM).

This strategy underscores the urgency of building a credible platform to challenge ODM's dominance in Western Kenya while positioning Sifuna as a national contender.

Meanwhile, prominent UDA figures like Ndindi Nyoro and Irungu Kang’ata have left the ruling party, highlighting Kenya's shifting political alliances.

Sifuna's move signals a bid to unify opposition forces under Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua to challenge President William Ruto, reflecting a calculated effort to transform regional discontent into national momentum.
