Rep. Tom Kean Jr. Announces Return to Congress After Months of Unexplained Absence
Former U.S.Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina announced plans to introduce legislation called the 'TRANS MICE Act,' which would prohibit federal funding for research intended to alter an animal's biological sex.The proposal has generated significant criticism from scientists, commentators, and political observers.
Mace promoted the bill on social media, arguing that it would prevent what she described as ideological cruelty toward animals and referencing concerns that taxpayer money has been used for such research.Critics responded by arguing that the bill appears to be based on a misunderstanding of scientific terminology.
They noted that claims about government-funded efforts to create 'transgender mice' have circulated in conservative political circles, including statements previously made by President Donald Trump.
Scientists have repeatedly explained that many studies cited in these discussions involve 'transgenic mice,' a common research model in which genes are modified to study diseases and biological processes.Transgenic mice are not related to gender identity research in the way critics of the studies often suggest.Several public figures mocked the proposal.Science communicator Susan Oliver stated that the bill demonstrates confusion between 'transgenic' and 'transgender' mice.
Political strategist Mike Nellis criticized Mace harshly, while technology reviewer Zack Nelson described the legislation as 'depressingly funny' and emphasized that researchers are not creating transgender mice.Media strategist Ari Drennen also questioned why Mace continues to align herself with Trump after her unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign.
The controversy highlights ongoing political disputes over scientific research funding, gender-related issues, and the use of scientific terminology in public policy debates.

Typical virtue signaling nonsense. Mace is pandering to the base again, twisting science to score political points. They’re playing games with words and animals for attention. Sad how easily folks get fooled by this stuff.
