Sotto questions legality of proposed Senate subcommittee on flood control probe
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is working closely with the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) to ensure safety, order, and effective crowd control outside the Senate as Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial is set to start on July 6, 2026.
NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo explained that coordination with Senate security aims to assist individuals leaving the Senate compound and manage gatherings efficiently.Plans are being discussed for placing barriers and other adjustments to maintain smooth operations.Reserve personnel will be on standby in case of escalations, while checkpoints have been established around Pasay City.
Earlier this month, Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto criticized the police for failing to manage a previous crowd, where he reported being assaulted by protesters.Duterte has until June 1 to respond to the impeachment writ of summons, and under Senate rules, she has ten calendar days to submit her pleadings.The prosecution may file a reply within five calendar days.
The impeachment trial schedule will involve regular Senate sessions in the morning, followed by impeachment proceedings in the afternoon from Monday to Wednesday.
The House of Representatives charged Duterte with alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, and other high crimes.
