NDPHC rehabilitates 225MW Gbarain power plant in Bayelsa to boost electricity supply

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has handed over the rehabilitation of its Gbarain Power Plant in Bayelsa State to a joint venture between TILT Energy Limited and Schneider Electric.

The project focuses on replacing the burnt Power Control Module (PCM) that was damaged by fire in November 2020, which delayed the plant's commissioning.Ginsau Idris, NDPHC’s General Manager, Generation Projects, emphasized the importance of the PCM replacement to restore the 225MW facility.

Abdullahi Kassim, NDPHC’s Executive Director, noted that the fire caused a major setback but highlighted ongoing efforts to complete the rehabilitation within a 12-month timeline.Complementary infrastructure like access roads and support buildings is also under construction.Deji Awodeji of TILT Energy assured stakeholders of timely completion without compromising quality.

Jennifer Adighije, NDPHC’s Managing Director, stressed that the project was prioritized as a 'low-hanging fruit' to quickly boost electricity generation.The rehabilitation aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to strengthen power supply and support economic development.The Gbarain Power Plant’s strategic location near gas supply makes it critical for regional energy needs.
