New Zealand Riders Launch Bikepacking Journey from London to Vietnam with Guinness World Record Tea Delivery

Three New Zealanders, Louie Tatom Cross, Alfie Duffy, and Josh Stackhouse, have embarked on an ambitious bikepacking adventure called the Slow Miles Club. The group is cycling from London to Vietnam along a modified version of the historic Silk Road.Their journey includes an official attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the longest food delivery by bicycle.Sponsored by DoorDash, they are transporting a box of Yorkshire Tea from London to Almaty, Kazakhstan, where it will be delivered to a British expat. The tea is carefully protected in multiple layers for the long journey.

After starting in a London pub, the trio has already crossed through England, France, Belgium, Germany, and parts of the Alps, currently riding in Italy.

They plan to continue through Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and then ferry across to Kazakhstan before heading further into Central Asia via Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India toward Southeast Asia. The riders average about 60 kilometers per day and are learning bikepacking skills on the go, from gear setup to navigation. They rely on wild camping and Warmshowers hosts for accommodation and have maintained a positive group dynamic so far.The trip emphasizes slow travel, cultural immersion, and adaptability as they face varying weather, terrain, and geopolitical route adjustments.Additional friends have joined or plan to join, potentially making it a group of six Kiwis riding through Central Asia. The cyclists highlight how biking allows deeper connection with places and people compared to faster modes of travel.
