NSW Liberal frontbencher Damien Tudehope steps aside after being called as ICAC witness
The NSW government has announced a $12 billion investment over 15 years to build next-generation Tangara trains at a new manufacturing facility in the Hunter Valley.
Two potential sites—a former coal mine in Teralba and the Broadmeadow Locomotive Depot—have been identified, with due diligence to determine the final location. The decision comes amid an upcoming state election and rising competition from the One Nation party in key Hunter seats. The funding will cover train manufacturing, facility upgrades, and infrastructure works, creating over 550 ongoing jobs and 780 construction roles.
Premier Chris Minns emphasized the importance of domestic manufacturing, contrasting it with the previous Coalition government's reliance on overseas train imports. The project aims to replace the aging Tangara fleet by 2027, with subsequent fleet replacements planned for the 2040s and 2050s.The announcement highlights NSW's commitment to long-term economic growth and infrastructure development.
