A group of nursing aspirants in Uttarakhand staged a protest outside the residence of Health Minister Subodh Uniyal in Dehradun, demanding year-wise recruitment based on seniority and other pending issues.The protest, which had lasted over 150 days, ended in May after assurances from the minister, but promises remained unfulfilled.During the protest on July 22, 2026, a woman allegedly consumed phenyl, leading to her hospitalization.Police confirmed the incident, and she was admitted to the ICU in stable condition.

The aspirants seek reforms including relaxed age limits, local candidate preferences, and additional nursing posts as per Indian Public Health Standards.The protest highlights systemic delays in recruitment, causing mental health issues among candidates.

Health officials and protest leaders emphasized the need for urgent action to address the grievances, which have remained unresolved for eight months.
