An off-duty police officer was shot and killed while praying inside a mosque in Barangay Uyaan Proper, Madamba, Lanao del Sur on Saturday.According to Bangsamoro police spokesperson Capt.Steffie Salanguit, Chief Master Sgt.Alioden Sarangani died instantly after being shot multiple times in the head by an unidentified gunman.Reports said Sarangani was performing the isha prayer, the final daily prayer in Islam, when the attacker approached him from behind and opened fire.The incident caused panic among fellow worshippers inside the mosque as the suspect immediately fled the scene after the shooting.Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrator.Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr.strongly condemned the killing and urged law enforcement agencies to bring the suspect to justice as soon as possible.He also announced a cash reward for individuals who can provide information that may help identify and locate the gunman.Bangsamoro police chief Brig.Gen.Christopher Abecia assured residents that investigators are actively working on the case and pursuing all available leads.As of the report, authorities had not disclosed a possible motive for the attack, and no arrests had been made.
