Another suspect in Dr. Kent Carpenter's murder case surrenders
The Ombudsman's Office has initiated a new review of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) sports facilities construction case, which was previously dismissed due to insufficient evidence.Ombudsman Boying Remulla directed investigators to re-examine alleged irregularities in the project, five years after the initial dismissal.
The case involved Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, who was then head of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) overseeing New Clark City construction.Remulla emphasized that the review aims to assess potential legal violations from 2021 without violating double jeopardy principles.
This follows National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag's announcement of an investigation into alleged anomalies in the projects.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who led the 2019 SEA Games organizing committee, criticized Matibag's move as an attempt to intimidate him ahead of his Senate impeachment court appearance.Remulla stated that the review will focus on past actions taken by the office in 2021, ensuring no new charges are filed.
The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of infrastructure projects and their legal implications, reflecting broader concerns about transparency and accountability in public works.
