The opposition parties staged a symbolic walkout from the all-party meeting convened by the Centre on Sunday, protesting the government's decision to invite the Nationalist Congress Party (India) (NCPI), which they allege includes 'rebel' Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that all opposition parties walked out for a few minutes as a mark of protest against the Modi government's invitation to the NCPI, which is accused of being a parking place for 20 so-called 'rebel' TMC MPs.TMC MP Mahua Moitra highlighted that these MPs' merger has not been approved by the Speaker and their disqualification petitions are pending.

Other parties like Shiv Sena (UBT) and Samajwadi Party also raised concerns about the invitation, linking it to the Lok Sabha Speaker's decision on defected members.The meeting was held ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where the government planned to outline its legislative agenda.The protest underscores tensions over parliamentary procedures and party affiliations.
