A 25-metre phone tower designed to enhance Optus and TPG services in Holt and surrounding areas has been proposed for the Burns Club's golf course in Belconnen.The development application, submitted by Downer EDI on behalf of Indara, aims to address coverage gaps and future-proof against population growth.The tower would be located on a 92.16-square-metre site along Spofforth Street, featuring non-reflective grey panels to minimise visual impact.Key considerations include removing two trees (one protected) and constructing a new driveway for maintenance access.Alternative sites in Holt, Macgregor, and Fadden were rejected due to coverage limitations or visual concerns.The proposal highlights the necessity of placing towers in service areas despite environmental trade-offs.Public feedback closes on July 31, with Indara open to adjusting the tower's design based on community input.
