Paris Saint-Germain joins elite list of back-to-back Champions League winners
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has ended the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League season as one of the standout performers after finishing among the players with the highest number of Player of the Match awards.
According to UEFA’s released leaderboard, Osimhen picked up four Player of the Match honours, putting him joint-top with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain, Harry Kane of Bayern Munich, Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid, and Francisco Trincão of Sporting CP.
The awards are selected after every match by UEFA’s Technical Observer Group and presented to players who deliver exceptional performances on the pitch.
Osimhen’s influence was key for Galatasaray throughout their European campaign, especially as he helped dem carry the club reach the Round of 16 after dem defeat Juventus in the knockout play-off stage.However, their journey later ended against Liverpool, who progressed with a 4-1 aggregate win.
The Nigerian striker first collected his award in a 1-0 win over Liverpool on Matchday Two, then added another after a strong showing in a 3-1 victory against Bodø/Glimt on Matchday Three.
He continued his fine form with a dominant display in a 3-0 win over Ajax on Matchday Four, before earning his fourth recognition in the knockout play-off second leg against Juventus, even though Galatasaray eventually lost 3-2 after extra time.Across the tournament, only four other elite players matched his total of four awards.Meanwhile, PSG went on to win the Champions League final against Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Vitinha named Player of the Match.The final leaderboard saw Osimhen sharing top recognition with Europe’s most influential attackers for the season.
