Pakistan introduces cashless payment system at all passport offices nationwide

The Government of Pakistan has launched a cashless transaction system at all passport offices across the country, aiming to improve efficiency, transparency, and public convenience.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that applicants will now be able to make payments without the need to stand in long queues or handle cash at counters.

He stated that this reform has been implemented on the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and reflects the government’s commitment to modernising public service delivery.

According to the interior minister, the new system is part of broader administrative reforms designed to make government services faster and more user-friendly.

He emphasised that the initiative will reduce waiting times, minimise corruption risks associated with cash handling, and improve overall transparency in passport processing.

Naqvi also appreciated the efforts of the passport department team, saying they have successfully delivered on the government’s digital transformation goals. The announcement follows earlier developments by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, which is working on a wider digital upgrade.

This includes the introduction of a mobile application that will allow citizens to apply for and renew passports online, track application status, and access services remotely.

Additionally, plans are underway for a home delivery service so that passports can be delivered directly to applicants, reducing repeated visits to offices.Officials believe these reforms will significantly modernise Pakistan’s passport services and bring them in line with international standards.

The government sees this shift towards digital and cashless systems as a step toward improved governance and better citizen facilitation across the country.
