Pakistan has strongly condemned the continued threats issued by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping operating in the Red Sea, describing such actions as a serious risk to regional stability and international trade.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that threats against commercial vessels undermine freedom of navigation, weaken the rules-based maritime order and disrupt the smooth flow of global commerce.It stressed that intimidation of ships involved in lawful trade with Saudi Arabia is unacceptable and inconsistent with international law.

The statement came after heightened regional tensions, including the Houthis' announcement of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia and threats to target commercial shipping.It also followed reports that Saudi Arabia intercepted ballistic missiles launched from Yemen towards its southern region.

Pakistan reiterated that any hostile action against Pakistani-flagged vessels or the country's maritime interests would be regarded as a serious threat to its national security and sovereignty.

The Foreign Office added that, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defence, to protect its maritime assets and national interests.

Islamabad also expressed deep concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia further into the wider Middle East conflict and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kingdom's security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity.

Pakistan concluded by urging all parties to exercise restraint, respect international law and ensure the safety and security of international maritime shipping through dialogue, diplomacy and regional de-escalation.
