Pakistan has made significant strides in its fight against polio, with the country reporting a 99.8% reduction in cases since the 1990s.The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) was briefed on the progress, noting that while the virus has been pushed into fewer high-risk areas, insecurity in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains a major obstacle.

Officials highlighted that the strategy has delivered results, but challenges like security threats in KP prevent vaccination teams from reaching all children.The government has adopted targeted approaches, including smaller local teams and integrating polio campaigns with other health services.

Despite these efforts, the virus is still concentrated in the most insecure regions, requiring urgent and precise action to ensure no child is left behind.

The IMB's role in assessing global eradication efforts underscores the importance of sustained political will and international collaboration to achieve polio-free status.
