Gezane “Papa Penny” Kobane, a veteran South African musician and former Member of Parliament for the MK Party, has publicly explained the reasons behind his resignation from the party.

Speaking in an interview with Newzroom Afrika, he denied any personal conflict with former President Jacob Zuma, emphasizing that his departure was not driven by disagreements with the party’s national leadership.

Instead, he alleged that internal issues within the MK Party forced him out, claiming that certain individuals operating within party structures—particularly in Limpopo—were working against him.Papa Penny described these individuals as ANC-linked operatives who he believes were attempting to undermine the MK Party from within.

He said he repeatedly warned the leadership about what he considered infiltration and internal sabotage, but his concerns were allegedly not addressed.

According to him, the lack of action from leadership created a toxic internal environment that ultimately made his continued participation impossible.

In his resignation letter addressed to Zuma, he expressed disappointment that the most painful conflicts came not from political opponents but from within the party itself.Despite stepping away from the MK Party, Papa Penny stressed that he remains politically active.He has since joined the Afrika Mayibuye Movement led by Floyd Shivambu, signaling a new political direction.He has also been named the movement’s mayoral candidate for the Greater Giyani Municipality ahead of upcoming local government elections.His move reflects both frustration with internal party dynamics and a continued ambition to participate in South African politics at the local level.
