Pasay City authorities have announced significant traffic rerouting and security preparations in anticipation of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which is set to begin at the Senate on July 6, 2026.
The Pasay City Traffic and Parking Management Office confirmed that portions of Diokno Boulevard, particularly between Seaside Boulevard and Atang Dela Rama Street, will be temporarily closed on trial days. These closures will affect both northbound and southbound lanes and will be enforced daily from 7 a.m.to 7 p.m.depending on the trial schedule.
Authorities warned motorists that the restrictions may remain in place for up to seven to eight months, depending on the duration of the impeachment proceedings. As an alternative route, drivers are advised to use Macapagal Boulevard to avoid congestion in the area near the Senate.
In addition to traffic management measures, the Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that around 6,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure the vicinity of the Senate during the trial period.
The PNP stated that no request has been made to place officers inside the Senate itself, but a comprehensive security plan has been prepared and intelligence monitoring is ongoing to address any possible threats.A final coordination meeting among security units is also being conducted to ensure readiness.
The impeachment trial is expected to be a high-profile political event, with the Senate impeachment court initially scheduling hearings on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, later shifting to Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after the State of the Nation Address.
Vice President Duterte faces four Articles of Impeachment, including allegations of graft and corruption, misuse of confidential funds, grave threat, and unexplained wealth. She has denied all accusations, and conviction would require a two-thirds vote of the Senate impeachment court.
