The dispute resurfaced after Chinese state media mocked the 2016 arbitral ruling on maritime boundaries, using an AI-generated video depicting Filipinos as monkeys.

Tarriela defended government transparency efforts in the West Philippine Sea, calling them necessary to expose Chinese aggression, while Padilla accused him of starting 'wartime propaganda' with his caricature of President Xi Jinping.

The exchange highlights tensions between Manila and Beijing over territorial claims, with both sides using social media to counter each other's narratives.

Tarriela emphasized that the caricature issue was not about white supremacist views but Chinese government actions, while Padilla reiterated his stance on China's alleged racial insensitivity.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has already protested the AI-generated video, which drew widespread criticism for its derogatory portrayal of Filipinos.
