The Philippines and the European Union have agreed to elevate their bilateral relations through an Enhanced Partnership, focusing on deeper cooperation in security, trade, and regional affairs.

The agreement includes a 15 million euro assistance package under the European Peace Facility to enhance the Armed Forces of the Philippines' maritime surveillance capabilities.

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas emphasized Europe's commitment to being a security partner in the Indo-Pacific region, while Foreign Secretary Theresa Lazaro highlighted the growing partnership and support for the Philippines' stance on South China Sea disputes.The EU reaffirmed backing for the 2016 Arbitral Award, urging peaceful resolution of conflicts with China.Discussions on the Code of Conduct (COC) between ASEAN and China remain ongoing, with hopes for a legally binding agreement by year-end.Key unresolved issues include the COC's scope, recognition of the arbitral award, and its legal enforceability.
