Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a high-powered task force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to review examination reforms.

The move comes after weeks of nationwide protests demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over allegations of mismanagement in competitive exams.Protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party, began in June 2026 and saw widespread participation, including clashes with police in Delhi.

Modi emphasized steps to ensure exam credibility and mentioned a proposed law with stricter penalties for cheating, including imprisonment of five to ten years and fines up to Rs 50 lakh.The task force will also investigate cases within two months and address organized exam-related offenses.Despite Pradhan's resignation, the protests highlighted deepening youth discontent over governance and transparency in educational systems.
