PM Modi visits Indonesia's Prambanan Temple as India and Indonesia deepen cultural heritage cooperation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during his official visit to Australia.At the stadium, PM Modi interacted with young cricketers, signed their jerseys and posed with Australia's official mascot, Ruby the Roo.He also met former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh.
Speaking at the venue, PM Modi said that the MCG evokes special emotions for Indians because of the historic cricket rivalry between India and Australia.He added that cricket is much more than a sport in both countries and represents a shared passion that strengthens people-to-people connections.
He remarked that, unlike the tension of a last-over finish, the visit celebrated friendship, mutual respect and the aspirations of future generations of cricketers.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi also met Australia's Leader of the Opposition, Angus Taylor, and discussed the continued growth of India-Australia relations.In a message shared after the meeting, he appreciated the broad political support in Australia for stronger bilateral ties.
The visit also coincided with the Third India-Australia Annual Summit, where both countries announced 18 major outcomes covering defence, maritime security, energy, cyber and critical technologies, education, mining, research and cultural cooperation.
Among the key announcements were the adoption of the Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation and the Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap.The two sides also agreed to operationalise their civil nuclear agreement to facilitate uranium exports to India.
According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, these initiatives reflect the evolving strategic environment and demonstrate both nations' commitment to expanding their comprehensive strategic partnership.
