The Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched a formal investigation into allegations of secret meetings involving relatives of missing sabungeros, amid concerns over police officers’ potential interference.PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.emphasized that the probe seeks to identify whether additional officers facilitated these meetings and stressed the importance of upholding the organization's integrity.Two officers, Highway Patrol Group spokesperson Police Lieutenant Nadame Malang and PNP Custodial Center’s Police Major Reynaldo Pañebe Jr., have been relieved of their duties following complaints from the original complainants.Allegedly, these officers assisted family members in visiting accused individuals detained at Camp Crame.Some complainants reportedly withdrew their complaints in exchange for financial support of P40,000 per month.
The PNP assured the public that the investigation will be conducted impartially, and any officers found to have improperly intervened will face accountability.As of publication, the officers involved have not provided comments on the allegations.
The PNP's actions reflect an effort to maintain public trust while addressing potential misconduct within the force regarding a sensitive case involving missing persons and the local cockfighting community.
