The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday that it has not yet received any official communication regarding an alleged arrest warrant issued against Senator Rodante Marcoleta.
During a press briefing, PNP Information Chief and spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co clarified that, as of the time of the statement, no formal notice or warrant had been transmitted to the police organization. He explained that the PNP can only act once an official warrant from the proper authorities is received.
According to Co, the police force is prepared to carry out its duties and implement any lawful warrant in the same manner that it executes other court-issued or legally authorized warrants.
Marcoleta is currently facing plunder and bribery complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman related to allegations that he received P75 million in campaign donations during the previous year.
Despite the reports about a possible arrest warrant, the PNP emphasized that there is still no official document in its possession that would require enforcement action.Meanwhile, Marcoleta has denied wrongdoing and argued that the complaints against him are politically motivated.
He claimed that the case is intended to silence his criticisms regarding alleged irregularities in flood control projects and to affect discussions surrounding the impeachment trial of his political ally, Vice President Sara Duterte.
As of the publication of the report, the PNP maintained that it is simply awaiting formal communication from the appropriate authorities before taking any action.
