The Philippine National Police (PNP) is collaborating with ride-hailing companies and agencies to enhance safety measures for motorcycle taxi riders following two recent fatal attacks.

In an interview, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Allan Rae Co emphasized the need for preventive and proactive strategies, not just reactive solutions.

The first incident involved a rider stabbed by a passenger in Caloocan City, while another saw a rider killed by a passenger during a trip from Manila to Cavite.The suspect allegedly extorted money from the victim's family.Co highlighted proposed safeguards like verifying passengers' identities during booking and mentioned that two suspects are now in custody.

The PNP aims to protect both riders and passengers through systemic improvements, stressing the importance of police deployments and follow-up operations in resolving such crimes.These measures reflect a broader effort to address rising safety concerns in the motorcycle taxi sector.
