Police Arrest PFIPC DG Adeniyi Adeyemi After Federal High Court Issues Bench Warrant

Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been arrested in Osun State after a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered security agencies to arrest and produce him before the court.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant after Adeyemi failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment on an eight-count charge involving alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.According to the prosecution, this was the fifth time the matter had come up, with several adjournments linked to the defendant's absence. The prosecution therefore relied on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to request a warrant for his arrest.Adeyemi's lawyer opposed the application, arguing that his client stayed away because of alleged threats to his life.He maintained that Adeyemi had appeared in court previously and wanted to remain alive to defend himself during trial.

However, Justice Umar held that the court would ensure his safety and noted that the defendant had repeatedly failed to attend proceedings despite appearing only once since the case was filed. Before his arrest, Adeyemi had publicly denied hiding from law enforcement agencies, insisting that he only stayed away because of security concerns.

He also repeated his claim that he paid ₦400 million through a proxy to secure his appointment and alleged that those who provided the money later reported him to the EFCC.He further insisted that the PFIPC exists and called for an independent investigation into the alleged ₦1.3 billion budget insertion linked to the council.Following the court order, Adeyemi was arrested and is expected to be produced before the court on September 30 to take his plea.
