Police officer and civilian accomplice arrested for murder of fellow policeman in Zamboanga del Sur

A police officer and his civilian accomplice have been arrested in connection with the killing of a fellow policeman in Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines.

The victim, Corporal Armejo Jornadal of the 2nd Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company, was shot dead on July 1 while riding his motorcycle in Barangay Tickwas, Dumalinao.

According to police reports, the attackers were also riding a motorcycle and trailed the victim along a highway before the shooting incident in Purok Lapu-Lapu.The victim was hit from behind and died instantly at the scene.

Authorities from the Police Regional Office 9 confirmed that the suspect-policeman voluntarily surrendered to senior police officials and admitted involvement in the crime. However, officials withheld his identity.Investigations revealed that the suspect drove the motorcycle used in the attack, while his civilian companion allegedly fired the fatal shots. The two suspects reportedly fled the scene after taking the victim’s sling bag and his Canik 9mm service pistol.A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the civilian accomplice in Barangay Poblacion, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.The missing service firearm was later recovered in the civilian suspect’s residence.

Initial reports suggest the motive may be linked to a financial dispute, with circulating local accounts indicating that the suspect officer allegedly owed the victim a significant amount of money and had prior heated arguments with him.Police authorities stated that both suspects are now facing murder charges and remain under custody as investigations continue.

Law enforcement units in the province are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing, including possible planning and coordination between the suspects.
