Tragic Incident Involving Sister's Partner in Occidental Mindoro
The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that significant progress has been made in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Police Corporal Armejo Jornadal in Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur on July 1.According to PNP chief Gen.Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
, authorities arrested the suspected gunman, while his alleged accomplice, a police staff sergeant assigned to the Margosatubig Municipal Police Station, voluntarily surrendered after investigators gathered substantial evidence linking him to the crime.The investigation relied on closed-circuit television (CCTV) backtracking, intelligence operations, forensic examination, and witness interviews.The surrendered officer also turned over his service firearm and the motorcycle allegedly used during the attack.Jornadal was riding his motorcycle when armed assailants on another motorcycle reportedly shot him from behind, causing his immediate death.
The PNP said the developments demonstrate the effectiveness of coordinated investigative work and reaffirmed its commitment to holding accountable anyone involved in criminal acts, regardless of rank within the police organization.
In a separate incident reported in the same update, a former police officer identified only as Jerry surrendered to the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas after evading arrest for more than four years.
He is facing a murder case based on an arrest warrant issued by the Iloilo Regional Trial Court Branch 31 on April 26, 2022, with no bail recommended.Western Visayas police chief Brig.Gen.
Randulf Tuaño said the former officer decided to surrender because he wanted to finally face the charges and resolve the case that had been hanging over him.Authorities noted that previous attempts to serve the warrant had been unsuccessful.
