President Hassan has initiated the construction of Tanzania's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) sixth phase, connecting Tabora and Kigoma, with an investment of Sh6.31 trillion.The 506-kilometre project includes Tabora-Kigoma and Uvinza-Msongati sections, expected to be completed by 2030.

This expansion aims to enhance transport connectivity in the western region, reduce travel time between Dar es Salaam and Kigoma from over 20 hours to around eight hours, and create approximately 15,000 jobs.

The railway will also boost trade by linking Kigoma to Dar es Salaam's port and neighboring countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi.It forms part of Tanzania's broader plan to modernize its rail network for improved cargo and passenger movement across the country.
