Ruto clarifies his meeting with matatu leaders on fuel crisis and strike cancellation decision
Nairobi – President William Ruto has told Kenyans that he will accept the results of the 2027 General Election, whether or not it includes a second term for him.
Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast at Safari Park Hotel on May 28, 2026, Ruto sought to calm rising political anxiety, urging citizens not to panic about next year’s polls.
He emphasised that the elections will be peaceful, free, and fair, and assured the public that his government will not interfere with the democratic process despite criticism and accusations from opposition figures that his administration might influence the vote.
The President said his main focus remains on delivering his transformation agenda and fulfilling promises made to Kenyans before the next election cycle begins.Ruto highlighted that the outcome of the elections is ultimately in God’s hands, stating, “Whatever God has decided, no man can change.” The event brought together senior government officials, lawmakers, religious leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and other stakeholders.
With just over a year to the next election campaign, political maneuvering is already underway, with opposition coalitions, defections, and strategic alliances taking shape.
Ruto’s comments aim to assure the nation that political tensions should not distract from development goals and that Kenya will move forward peacefully, regardless of the election outcome.
