President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja launched Social Health Authority (SHA) medical cover for 7,820 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Nairobi, marking a significant step toward universal healthcare.

During a meeting at State House, the leaders presented a cheque to facilitate SHA registration for these frontline workers, emphasizing their critical role in transforming Kenya’s healthcare system.

Ruto highlighted that SHA has registered 33 million Kenyans compared to eight million under NHIF, with monthly payments reaching Sh12 billion versus NHIF’s Sh5.6 billion every three months.

Governor Sakaja praised CHPs as the backbone of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), noting their efforts in registering residents and providing healthcare access.He cited economic returns from investing in CHPs, stating every dollar invested yields 14 dollars in benefits.

Nairobi’s maternal and child health programs under the Nurturing Care Framework were also highlighted, ensuring support for children from conception to early childhood.The initiative aims to protect CHPs by covering their healthcare needs, aligning with broader UHC goals.
