President Asif Ali Zardari has directed federal, provincial, and local authorities to intensify coordinated preparedness, rescue, and relief measures amid ongoing monsoon rains.

The directive comes as heavy rainfall has triggered flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods in vulnerable regions like Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The president expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage to infrastructure caused by recent rains, emphasizing the need for close coordination between disaster management authorities and timely dissemination of early warnings.He called for continuous monitoring of rainfall and river flows in high-risk areas and urged downstream regions to prepare for potential flooding.Rescue resources are to be pre-positioned, and vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure must be protected.The president also urged the public to follow official advisories and avoid travel to areas under weather warnings.At least 37 people have died in rain-related incidents, with significant damage reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and northern regions.The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued alerts for further flash floods and landslides.
