The prime accused in the shocking sexual assault and murder case of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore has been attacked inside prison, resulting in grievous injuries.
The accused, identified as Karthi, was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Saturday after being assaulted by fellow inmates at the Central Prison in Coimbatore.
According to reports, Karthi had been lodged in prison after receiving medical treatment for fractures in his right arm and leg, which he sustained during his arrest in connection with the crime.The incident occurred just two days after his imprisonment.Prison inmates reportedly attacked him using makeshift objects such as spoons and plates, causing serious injuries.Following the attack, he was shifted for urgent medical care.
Authorities have confirmed that Karthi has also been detained under the Goondas Act, which allows preventive detention of habitual offenders and those considered a threat to public order.The case itself had already drawn significant public outrage due to the nature of the crime involving the sexual assault and murder of a minor girl.The prison attack has now added another layer of concern regarding safety and order within the correctional facility.
