Tanzania reassures investors on national stability and economic resilience after 2025 unrest
Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, has called on citizens to remain united and reject what he described as external and internal influences aiming to divide the country.
Speaking on Saturday, May 23, 2026, during a public working visit at Kichangani Grounds in Iringa Municipality, the Prime Minister emphasised that national unity is the foundation of peace, stability, and development in Tanzania.
He urged Tanzanians to be patriotic and cautious of individuals he referred to as agents of division who, according to him, are spreading misinformation and attempting to create panic among the public.
Dr Nchemba stated that some groups are allegedly using social media and staged incidents to portray Tanzania as unsafe, which he said is misleading and harmful to national cohesion.
He also referred to claims circulating online regarding the alleged abduction of an aide to opposition figure Tundu Lissu, dismissing parts of the narrative as exaggerated or staged.
The Prime Minister further argued that certain incidents involving violence or loss of life have not received equal attention because of political affiliations, suggesting that some victims linked to the ruling party have been overlooked in public debate.
During his address, he also revisited past security incidents, including bomb attacks on public places and churches, as well as acid attacks on leaders, describing them as attempts to destabilise the country. He called such acts terrorist in nature and stressed the importance of collective condemnation regardless of political or religious differences. He urged citizens to work closely with security organs and government institutions to maintain peace and national stability.Dr Nchemba instructed security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any threats that could disrupt public order. His visit to Iringa Region continued to attract large crowds as he toured different districts, promoting messages of patriotism, unity, and peace.
