Two property brokers, Shrikant Chinchaliya (40) and Shashikant Chinchaliya (35), have been arrested for allegedly murdering a retired railway official, Hemant Philomen, and his wife, Shakuntala Barik, in Bhopal.The couple was killed in their Sudama Nagar home on June 24, 2026, after the accused fraudulently tricked them into signing over their property.Police revealed that the suspects had earlier obtained a gift deed for the couple's house through a relative, Shivani Barik.When the couple attempted to sell their property independently, the dealers delayed the process, leading to a confrontation.CCTV footage and scientific evidence helped identify the culprits, with a special investigation team (SIT) probing the case.Police commissioner Sanjay Kumar stated that nearly 20 teams were involved in the investigation.The suspects, who were frequent visitors, were initially not suspected of foul play.The case highlights issues of property fraud and vigilantism, with investigators also examining the role of Shivani Barik in the crime.
