A resolution has been submitted to the Punjab Assembly seeking a ban on the appointment of dual nationals to government service, citing concerns over allegiance and access to sensitive state information.

The resolution, moved by PML-N MPA Amjad Ali Javed, argues that holding citizenship of another country raises questions about an individual's loyalty to Pakistan.

It highlights an investigative report claiming around 24,000 government employees hold dual nationality, with many family members also possessing foreign citizenship.

The resolution emphasizes that dual nationals are already barred from contesting elections and stresses the need for legislation to prevent them from holding public sector jobs.It calls on both federal and Punjab governments to introduce measures to protect national interests and sensitive institutions.

The proposal follows similar calls by other lawmakers, including JUI-F MNA Noor Alam Khan, who urged restrictions on bureaucrats with dual nationality.The debate underscores growing concerns about security and loyalty in public service.
