An Australian woman from Queanbeyan, New South Wales, has become the sole winner of a $60 million Powerball jackpot after a spontaneous last-minute change to her ticket numbers.
The winning entry secured the Division One prize in draw 1567, held on Thursday 28 May 2026, making her the only ticket holder to match all the required numbers. In addition to the Division One win, she also held 19 Division Two wins, boosting her total prize to approximately $60,638,678.35.
Speaking to lottery officials after being contacted by The Lott, the winner expressed shock and disbelief, repeatedly describing the situation as “insane” and struggling to comprehend her sudden fortune. She revealed that the ticket was purchased as a PowerHit entry and initially generated using a fast selection method.
However, she decided at the last moment to alter one of her numbers, changing a 33 to a 5 after reconsidering the number distribution in the 30s range. This impulsive adjustment ultimately aligned her ticket with the drawn numbers: 26, 30, 10, 34, 16, 5 and 12, with Powerball number 11.
Despite the life-changing win, the woman said she intended to continue working for now, at least in a reduced capacity, and emphasised her desire to use the money responsibly.
She noted her current financial situation, including a mortgage and cost-of-living pressures, and expressed hopes of helping her family achieve financial stability.
Lottery officials highlighted the importance of registering tickets, noting that the winner was able to be contacted immediately because her entry was registered.
They also referenced a separate unclaimed $100 million Powerball prize from June 2025, urging players to ensure their tickets are registered to avoid missing out on life-changing winnings.
