The Quebec government has approved plans to renovate the interior of Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, Tourism Minister Amélie Dionne announced.This comes as construction on the $870-million roof replacement project is already underway, aiming to make the stadium permanent rather than retractable.

The renovation will include redesigning seating to bring fans closer to the field, adding premium suites, and reconfiguring the lower bowl into a rectangular layout surrounding a football/soccer field.Washrooms and food concessions will also be upgraded.While the government did not disclose the cost for interior work, private partners are expected to contribute to cover expenses.Both roof and interior projects are set for completion by 2028.The upgrades aim to create a modern facility capable of hosting major international events year-round, boosting Quebec’s economic prospects.CF Montréal, the MLS club, will benefit from the renovations as they prepare for a winter calendar starting in 2027.The stadium, originally built for the 1976 Olympics, has faced challenges including unreliable roofs and soaring costs.The new roof promises to eliminate seasonal closures, triple revenue potential, and ensure durability for 50 years.
