South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray has publicly supported a new initiative called 'Try for Jai' aimed at raising awareness for motor neurone disease (MND) following the recent diagnosis of teammate Jai Arrow.Arrow's diagnosis, which forced him to retire immediately from rugby league, has deeply affected the rugby league community.The debilitating condition impacts essential nerve cells needed for movements such as walking, swallowing, talking and breathing.Former teammate Tom Burgess, who lost his father to MND, initially suggested a themed round to support Arrow.Murray expressed his strong backing for the idea, highlighting the positive impact such initiatives could have both for fans and for MND research.
The 'Try July' promotion, which ran for six seasons and raised nearly $2 million for various causes, including player hardship funds, inspired this new campaign.
Current NSW debutant Blayke Brailey also voiced his support, emphasising the importance of collective effort to help Arrow and contribute to the cause.
The Rugby League community has rallied around Arrow, praising his strength and character in facing such a cruel disease, with players and staff committed to supporting him through this challenging period.
