A rescue operation in Maharashtra's Raigad district ensured the safe evacuation of eight passengers after a state-run ST bus became stranded in floodwaters caused by continuous heavy rainfall.The operation was carried out by personnel from the Rasayani Police with assistance from volunteers of the Help Foundation.Among those rescued was a 72-year-old woman who required special assistance because of her age and limited mobility.

During the operation, a police officer carried the elderly woman through waist-deep floodwaters to a safe location, reflecting the commitment of the rescue team to protecting vulnerable citizens.

The Raigad Police later shared photographs of the rescue on social media, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the police and volunteers and praising the team's dedication to duty.

The incident occurred as Maharashtra continues to experience intense monsoon conditions, with persistent rainfall leading to flooding, waterlogging and disruptions to transport in several districts.

Emergency agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), remain on alert as authorities respond to rain-related emergencies across the state.The rescue serves as an example of timely coordination between law enforcement and community organisations during natural disasters.

Officials have also urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas and follow weather advisories until conditions improve.
