Reading Festival Applies for License to Extend to Four Days with Thursday Music Performances

The organisers of Reading Festival have submitted a licensing application to expand the event to four days, including music performances on Thursday nights.

This change would align it with its sister festival, Leeds, which has already secured permission to host main stage acts on Thursdays for the first time this year. The proposed adjustment, if approved by Reading Borough Council, could take effect from 2027.Currently, the festival runs from Friday to Sunday, with Wednesday and Thursday reserved for camping ticket holders to arrive and set up.The application seeks to add amplified music to the Thursday schedule, with performances on the main stage from 5pm until midnight. This year’s Reading Festival, scheduled for 27-30 August, will feature headliners such as Kasabian at Leeds and Fontaines D.C., Florence + The Machine, DAVE, Charli XCX, RAYE, and Chase & Status across both weekends.

Significant venue upgrades, described as the largest in the event’s history, include expanded stages at Little John’s Farm and Bramham Park, with new areas like The Gallery and The Warehouse offering immersive experiences. These changes aim to enhance the festival’s offerings while accommodating growing demand for extended event hours.
