South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham’s Death Creates Senate Vacancy Amid Political Uncertainty
A New York Post report alleges that Arizona Democratic Sen.Ruben Gallego, who is widely viewed as a possible 2028 presidential candidate, had consensual romantic relationships with at least two congressional staffers during his years serving in the U.S.House of Representatives.
According to the report, the relationships involved aides working for Texas Democratic members of Congress and reportedly occurred while Gallego was unmarried.
The article cites multiple anonymous sources, including one who said Gallego acknowledged the relationships and another who characterized them as part of a broader pattern of questionable personal judgment because of the power imbalance between elected officials and younger staff members. One source also claimed that one of the women was in her 20s at the time.
Another Democratic operative, also speaking anonymously, described Gallego as flirtatious after drinking and said she personally found his behavior unsettling.
The article notes, however, that congressional rules generally do not prohibit relationships between lawmakers and staffers employed by other members, provided there are no allegations of harassment or other misconduct. It further points out that these reported relationships differ from cases involving lawmakers accused of inappropriate conduct with their own staff. The report follows the Senate Ethics Committee's recent dismissal of a complaint filed by Rep.Anna Paulina Luna alleging campaign finance violations and sexual misconduct by Gallego. The committee concluded that it found no evidence he violated federal law or Senate rules.
Luna nevertheless continued to criticize Gallego publicly on social media, while Gallego has dismissed her accusations as politically motivated conspiracy theories and has demanded an apology.Gallego's office and the staffers mentioned in the report did not comment on the allegations.
