Report Finds Significant Declines in Traffic Across Major Conservative News Websites in May 2026

A report highlighted by media watchdog Status indicates that major conservative and far-right news websites experienced substantial declines in web traffic during May 2026.

Data compiled by The Righting, a project that tracks audience trends across news sites, found that all of the top 20 right-leaning news outlets recorded year-over-year decreases in visits.

According to the report, 90 percent of those sites suffered double-digit declines, suggesting a broad downturn across the conservative media ecosystem.

Among the steepest losses were reported by The Federalist, which saw traffic fall by 52 percent, Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire, down 47 percent, and The Blaze, down 46 percent. The Epoch Times and Truth Social experienced smaller declines of 2 percent and 9 percent, respectively.

The article notes that mainstream news organizations also saw reductions in traffic, although their declines were generally less severe than those reported by several prominent conservative outlets.

Howard Polskin, who operates The Righting, stated that the downward trend has persisted throughout 2026 and appears to be accelerating, even during periods when major international events might normally be expected to drive audience engagement. The report also references recent layoffs at The Daily Wire.

Citing local reporting from Nashville Scene, the article notes that the company has faced challenges over the past year, including workforce reductions, difficulties expanding its entertainment ambitions, and increasing competition from independent conservative media personalities such as Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, and Candace Owens. The article presents these developments as evidence of weakening audience engagement across parts of the conservative digital media landscape.
