Hasan Hadi’s ‘The President’s Cake’ portrays the hardship of Iraqi children under Saddam Hussein’s regime
Vivek Soni’s film ‘Chand Mera Dil’ stars Lakshya and Ananya Panday as Aarav and Chandni, two engineering students who fall deeply in love at the age of 21.
Their intense relationship quickly turns complicated when Chandni becomes pregnant and insists on continuing with the pregnancy despite both of them still being students and unprepared for adult responsibilities.
This decision becomes the turning point in their relationship and sets the tone for a story centred on emotional conflict, immaturity, and differing perspectives on love and accountability.
The film explores how early passion can spiral into long-term consequences, pushing Aarav towards emotional breakdown and a supposed journey of redemption, while Chandni is shown grappling with her own choices and suffering in quieter, less acknowledged ways.
The screenplay by Vivek Soni and Tushar Paranjape attempts to present a mature romance that focuses on internal conflicts rather than external obstacles.
However, the narrative is described as uneven and overly complex, often tilting the emotional weight more towards Aarav’s suffering, even when Chandni’s perspective is meant to be equally important.
While the film includes moments of emotional honesty and rawness, critics note that it struggles to maintain balance between the two protagonists, ultimately appearing more sympathetic towards the male lead’s journey.
Lakshya, previously seen in action-oriented roles, delivers a performance marked by intensity and emotional volatility, with the script giving him relatively stronger material.Ananya Panday’s role is more fragmented, making Chandni’s character harder to empathise with despite her emotional turmoil.
Supporting actors such as Manish Chaudhari, Irawati Harshe Mayadev, Charu Shankar, Vidushi Kaul, and Paresh Pahuja appear in brief roles, while even the depiction of the couple’s child is noted as unusually distressed.
Overall, the film is positioned as a relationship drama that attempts emotional depth but ends up feeling uneven and skewed in its portrayal of love and responsibility.
