Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters Round 13 NRL clash at AAMI Park – match highlights
Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has reaffirmed his concerns about the consistency of NRL officiating following his side’s 30-22 defeat to the Dolphins, stating that a detailed review of the match did not change his initial assessment.Stuart had previously suggested referees were inconsistently applying the rules, leaving him confused about how games are being managed.
Despite the criticism, he made it clear he does not intend to escalate the matter with the NRL, instead preferring to focus on improving his team’s performance rather than seeking external intervention.
Stuart emphasised that while he carefully considers his public comments, he stands by what he said after the match and would not have expressed those views without thought.
He added that his focus remains firmly on preparation for the Raiders’ upcoming clash with the North Queensland Cowboys, describing preparation as too demanding to allow distractions about officiating. He also stressed the importance of avoiding giving players excuses and instead encouraging accountability within the squad. On selection matters, Stuart confirmed that NSW Origin representatives Ethan Strange and Hudson Young would back up for club duties.
He declined to engage in debate over whether NSW coach Laurie Daley should retain Strange in the Origin side over Mitchell Moses, noting there are still several matches before the next squad decision.
He praised Strange’s debut Origin performance as well as Young’s growing influence at representative level, with Young set to play his 150th NRL match.
Injury updates included positive signs for hooker Jayden Brailey, who is progressing through concussion protocols, and potential availability for Joe Roddy, who is recovering from a hand issue.
Overall, Stuart’s comments reflected a blend of frustration at officiating consistency and a determined focus on maintaining team performance amid a challenging NRL season.
