The Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay has donated 1,728 packs of sanitary pads to female students at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre, ensuring menstruation does not disrupt their education.
This donation, valued at 2 million Tanzanian shillings, meets the institution's annual needs, enabling regular class attendance and full participation in vocational training.
The initiative aligns with Tanzania's National Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) Guidelines, which aim to improve menstrual health, protect girls' dignity, and promote gender equality through government and development partner collaboration.
The donation was handed over during the club's weekly fellowship meeting, with Ms Hilu Bura emphasizing that menstrual health is crucial for girls' academic success and confidence. She noted that many girls miss classes due to unaffordable hygiene products, highlighting the club's commitment to removing educational barriers.
Don Bosco Principal Father Felix thanked the Rotary Club for reducing the institution's annual expenditure on sanitary products while supporting female students' attendance and academic engagement.
The initiative reflects growing partnerships between community organizations and educational institutions to enhance girls' health, dignity, and educational outcomes across Tanzania.
