President William Ruto has pledged decisive government action following the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls Academy that claimed the lives of 16 students.

Speaking through a condolence message read by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba during a requiem mass in Gilgil, Nakuru County, the president assured parents and the nation that improving safety in schools will be a top priority.

The memorial service brought together national leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and First Lady Rachel Ruto, as well as grieving families, friends and members of the school community.

Ruto described the deceased learners as bright young girls whose futures were cut short by the tragedy, saying they were not only daughters to their families but also daughters of Kenya.He expressed sympathy to the bereaved families and acknowledged the deep pain of losing a child.The president promised that the government would implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in schools across the country.He also praised teachers, emergency responders, healthcare workers and security agencies for their efforts during and after the fire.In addition, the government announced financial support for affected families, with each bereaved family set to receive KSh 200,000.Authorities also committed to covering all medical expenses for injured students and meeting funeral and burial costs for the deceased learners.The government said the victims’ dreams and contributions would be remembered as the country continues to mourn the loss.
