High Court declares Fort Hare’s deregistration of Oscar Mabuyane unlawful and procedurally unfair
The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) has concluded an independent legal review that found former chair Makhudu Sefara did not breach the organisation’s constitution or code of conduct.
The investigation, prompted by allegations linked to the alleged misappropriation of National Lotteries funding, was commissioned after the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) tied Sefara to the probe.Sanef stated that evidence, including correspondence from the SIU, confirmed no wrongdoing by Sefara or his company, Unscripted Communication.Despite the clearance, Sefara will not resume his role as chair and will not seek re-election at the upcoming AGM.The organisation emphasized its commitment to strengthening governance and upholding media freedom.Sefara remains on special leave as Sunday Times editor while an independent investigation by Arena Holdings continues.
