City entomologist Georgiana Antochi-Crihan explained that while the increase is dramatic, it may also be due to years of drought reducing mosquito populations.The city has implemented measures like applying Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (a mosquito-specific bacteria) after significant rain events.Residents are urged to eliminate stagnant water sources and maintain short grass to reduce breeding sites.Retailers have reported sold-out mosquito sprays, with some imposing purchase limits.This situation highlights the complex interplay between climate patterns and public health challenges in the region.
